Today is Thanksgiving and I am so very thankful.
This past Sunday my Mom arrived to visit and I went to the airport to get her. As I walked from the parking lot to the terminal, I noticed my ankles hurt. I got Mom home and we started making plans for the week. Of course the highlight of the week was to be Thanksgiving dinner. This meal was to be special as all three of my children planned to be present. This would be the first time all of us had been together in almost 9 years. On Monday I noticed my feet and ankles were a bit swollen and they still hurt. On Tuesday the swelling had increased and we decided it was time for a doctor visit. He checked me out and said I needed to get to the emergency room as soon as possible. So off I went. All the plans Mom and I made were out the window.
After some tests the doctor still did not know what was wrong so I was admitted. The good news was after a number of tests it was clear there was no infection. It appears the Colitis was still in remission. After being examined by a Rheumatologist it seems the same disease that caused the Colitis has also caused Inflammatory Arthritis in my ankles. The good news is long term the medicine that controls the Colitis should control these kinds of outbreaks. The bad news it right now, my system needs a little help so I am back on steroids. While these control on condition they also do damage to other systems.
All this came together mid morning on Thanksgiving. Now the only really important question is could I still get home in time for the meal. After a number of tests the answer was yes. And it was a nearly magic meal. I tried to say a blessing but got so emotional I could not finish. Below is a picture of the gang. Thank you Elizabeth for all your hard hard work putting this together. Yes she pulled it all off even though I was in the hospital.
So tonight I am so very thankful for all the wonderful blessings I have received this year. I thank God He did not give me only what I deserved because I did nothing to ”deserve” these wonderful gifts. I hope all who read this had as great a day as I did.
